Students say hello to Kaltura, a brand new feature that has just been fully implemented into Canvas for all students. Kaltura is a great way to upload media files to your account and share them between courses. Allowing you to take/view videos on the go while saving space on your Canvas account and your devices.
- In Canvas, two new buttons related to Kaltura have been added "My Media" and "Media Gallery." Let's take a look at each feature!
Please keep in mind that your instructor may hide both buttons if they choose to do so within their course!
Viewing Kaltura videos on the Canvas mobile app and mobile browsers is limited as some mobile applications and browsers have limitations on what content can is supported
My Media is a place where you can upload personal video, audio, and even picture files that will move with your account no matter what course you are in and is unique to your account, it is not viewable to anyone else other than yourself.
Media gallery is a place where you can upload files for a specific course and make it available to all students within the course to view, this can be used by teachers and all students within the course. Student videos are moderated by the teacher, meaning they only post to the Gallery after teacher approval.
Attach content from Kaltura to your course
Once you have added video to your My Media you can place this content anywhere in Canvas where you can access the Rich Content Editor (RCE) for example you may do so in your course discussions. In the Canvas RCE there is a new button that allows you to do so at the click of a button. Click the Kaltura button in the RCE to record directly from your webcam, screencast anywhere on your computer, or upload audio or video files:
